The Thrill of the find: why i love Facebook marketplace

Some of my favorite design pieces didn’t come from a showroom — they came from scrolling Facebook Marketplace with a good eye (and a little patience). It’s one of my favorite ways to find unique, character filled pieces that make a space feel layered and lived-in.

A FEW RECENT FINDS I’VE LOVED

Vintage Wicker Chairs

Worn just right and full of charm, these were a total steal. They brought in beautiful texture and made a perfect natural statement to the porch and I paid $100 bucks for ALL FOUR!!!

Marble Top Cabinet

This one stopped me mid scroll. The white veined marble, soft curves, and warm-toned wood were too good to pass up — but it didn’t start that way. It was dark-stained and heavy looking at first. I took a chance and drove to get it. I brought it home, sanded it down, and uncovered the most beautiful natural wood tone underneath. I added some brass knobs from amazon to finish the look I was going for. Now it’s one of my favorite pieces I own — warm, elegant, and full of character.

Pottery Barn Pillow Shams In Brand New Condition

I snagged a bundle of Pottery Barn Linen pillow shams on Marketplace recently — such a timeless, effortless addition to any space. Soft, neutral, and beautifully made, they bring that subtle touch of luxury without the splurge.

It’s finds like these that remind me why I always check Marketplace first. You never know when you’ll come across something that feels high-end and personal, ready to layer right into your home.

How I find the Good Stuff: Keywords Matter

I don’t just type in “dresser.” I get specific — and that’s the trick. A few of my favorite search terms:

“marble top cabinet”

“vintage wood dresser”

“primitive”

“french country”

“cane chair”

What I always look for

Real wood (you can tell!)

Unique shapes or hardware

visible wear (the good kind)

sellers who list dimensions — bonus points if they’re quick to reply

I always encourage my clients to browse Facebook Marketplace. It’s one my favorite places to find beautiful, character-filled pieces without that designer price tag.
